File Serving

File serving is an essential server function, required by almost every organization. Companies need to access files and retrieve data for a number of business functions, so dependable, consistent availability is critical. As a result, file servers typically have to interface with multiple systems within a network. These multiple interfaces bring in several gigabits of network traffic per second which can quickly use up the processing cycles of even the most powerful server. Dealing with this issue and meeting performance requirements can make or break an IT department.

The typical solution to this problem is to add more servers. However, bringing additional servers on-line to meet user demands, results in a new set of challenges. New servers add incremental costs in terms of hardware, software licenses, server storage, installation, management and backup, as well as, continuous costs for power and cooling.
A better alternative is to implement an Alacritech® Scalable Network Accelerator™. Alacritech Accelerators remove the burden of network processing away from the host processor, freeing up available processing power so that file servers can perform the job for which they were intended – serving files. Alacritech Accelerator cards allow file servers to provide data faster, to more users, without the need for additional servers.
