ALACRITECH AND MOUNTAIN VIEW DATA JOIN TO OFFER AN OPEN,
CUSTOMIZABLE SERVER APPLIANCE PLATFORM FOR NAS OEMS
MVD Powered NAS and Alacritech's New TCP/IP Offload Engine for Linux
Provide Affordable, Full-featured Alternative to High-end NAS Devices
San Jose, Calif. January 20, 2003 Alacritech®,
Inc., the innovator of network accelerator solutions that enable fast and efficient
servers and storage systems, today announced a partnership with Mountain View
Data, Inc., a provider of advanced network storage software. Alacritech's new
TCP/IP accelerated drivers for Linux have been certified interoperable with
Mountain View Data's MVD Powered NAS software, which will contain integrated
support for the Alacritech TOE (TCP/IP offload engine) drivers. The companies
will join to offer storage manufacturers an open, affordable alternative for
developing customized high-performance file servers in multi-protocol client
environments.
"Mountain View Data enables storage companies to speed the development of advanced network storage appliance solutions with enterprise-class reliability, robust scalability, and simplified management," said Cliff Miller, president and CEO, Mountain View Data, Inc. "Alacritech is a recognized leader in TOE, and integration of Alacritech's SLIC Technology® will enable that MVD Powered NAS provides optimum performance and remains competitive in a quickly changing market."
Alacritech accelerators are well known as the highest-performing TCP offload and acceleration technology in the industry and are the only cards capable of moving both file- and block-level traffic. The company's new Release 3 Linux drivers provide acceleration, link aggregation and failover for leading throughput and scalability for a wide range of storage applications such as NAS, iSCSI, backup and replication. The Mountain View Data and Alacritech products provide OEMs with high-performance and advanced features such as snapshot and online resizing to the PC platform, features that have typically only been available on proprietary hardware systems. In addition, MVD Powered NAS software will offer a custom-developed GUI interface for easy management and viewing of the Alacritech TOE.
"As a leading distributor of information technology in Japan and throughout Asia, we continue to see increasing demand from manufacturers for integration of Alacritech's TCP acceleration technology into the Mountain View Data NAS platform," said Shoichi Teshiba, director of marketing, Macnica Networks Company. "The efforts of Alacritech and Mountain View Data greatly simplify the development of an open, full-featured, high-performance NAS platform by our OEM customers."
About Mountain View Data MVD Powered NAS Software
MVD Powered NAS is an advanced operating system solution for network attached storage (NAS) appliances. It utilizes an advanced, modular architecture for the creation of customized high-performance file servers in multi-protocol client environments. MVD Powered NAS adopts MVD Snap, file-system snapshotting, as a core component to extend its Enterprise Ready journal file system, and offers modules for high-end functionality such as real-time synchronization and failover. In addition, custom integration of logical volume management adds the ability to seamlessly enlarge an active data partition online without loss of access to data. Disk space can be allocated on a user-by-user basis using a quota mechanism that works with file sharing protocols such as NFS (Unix), CIFS (Microsoft Windows), and Apple Talk (Macintosh).
About Alacritech Acceleration Technology
Alacritech's Gigabit Accelerators are based on the company's patented SLIC Technology,
and are the only Integrated Storage Network Interface Cards (IS-NICs) capable
of significantly accelerating both IP storage and standard Ethernet traffic.
Alacritech's complete line of accelerators are based on SLIC Technology, a TCP/IP
offload and acceleration architecture proven to deliver the most efficient,
top-performing server and storage traffic acceleration possible. To eliminate
the network throughput, compatibility and scalability issues associated with
other TCP/IP offload engines, Alacritech's data-path TCP/IP offload enables
data movement to be performed by the custom ASIC on the adapter, and TCP/IP
connection management and error handling to be handled by the host software.

About Alacritech, Inc.
Alacritech, Inc. was founded by Larry Boucher, creator of the SCSI interface, to deliver upon his vision of eliminating the server bottleneck. Today, Alacritech is the innovator of network accelerator solutions that enable fast and efficient servers and storage systems. Alacritech's complete line of high-performance server and storage accelerators is based on the company's patented SLIC (session-layer interface control) Technology to optimize the performance of servers, network-attached storage and iSCSI storage devices. SLIC Technology is the first fully compatible and scalable technology to offload network protocol processing, primarily TCP/IP, from software on the host system to silicon on the adapter. Based in San Jose, California, Alacritech is privately held. Alacritech is a member of the 10 Gigabit Ethernet Alliance and the Storage Networking Association (SNIA) and a founding member of the SNIA IP Storage Forum.
