Alacritech Accelerators Confirmed as Interoperable with
the Cisco SN 5428 Storage Router
Small- and Medium-Size Businesses Now Benefit from Cost-Effective IP-based SAN Solutions
San Jose, Calif., September 16, 2002 Alacritech®, Inc., the innovator of network accelerator solutions that enable fast and efficient servers and storage systems, today announced that Cisco Systems, Inc. has tested and verified Alacritech's family of TCP/IP accelerators as fully interoperable with its new Cisco SN 5428 Storage Router. The tests were done in accordance with the requirements of the Cisco AVVID (Architecture for Voice and Video Integrated Data) Partner Program within the Storage Networking solutions track. When running in conjunction with the Cisco SN 5428 Storage Router, Alacritech accelerators enable small- and medium-size businesses (SMBs) and workgroups to cost effectively migrate from direct-attached storage (DAS) to storage-area network (SAN) environments.
"Cisco's strategy for advancing storage networking is to work in close conjunction with companies like Alacritech to promote interoperability standards," said Bill Erdman, director of Technology Alliances at Cisco Systems, Inc. "Customers now can deploy this combined solution as part of cost-effective, heterogeneous storage networks that will help them achieve increased productivity and lowered overall cost of ownership."
The Cisco SN 5428 offers two Gigabit Ethernet ports for connectivity to standard TCP/IP networks, and eight 1 or 2 Gigabit Fibre Channel fabric switch ports. It is designed with enterprise workgroups in mind to help these small- to medium-size IT organizations cost effectively migrate from DAS to SAN environments.
"Alacritech and Cisco continue to assure customers of our dedication to delivering industry-leading, reliable and interoperable iSCSI solutions to the marketplace," said Barry Haaser, vice president of marketing, Alacritech, Inc. "With the iSCSI standard ratification completed, we're committed to providing customers interoperable solutions today, and protecting their investment as we migrate to standards-compliant software for these products later this year."
About Alacritech Acceleration Technology and Products
Alacritech's accelerator product line offers small- and medium-size businesses choices at a number of interface options. Customers can use the Alacritech 100x4 Quad-port Fast Ethernet Accelerator for legacy, non-Gigabit environments. Those with Gigabit Ethernet infrastructure can chose between Alacritech's copper and fiber Gigabit accelerators for accelerating both file- and block-level data. All of the products offer standard iSCSI support and Microsoft Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL) qualified drivers.
Alacritech's accelerators are the only Integrated Storage Network Interface Cards (IS-NICs) providing hardware acceleration for both IP storage and standard Ethernet traffic. Alacritech's complete line of products is based on the company's patented SLIC Technology®, a TCP/IP data-path offload and acceleration architecture proven to deliver the most efficient, top-performing server and storage traffic acceleration possible. All of the products offer industry-standard failover and link aggregation support using either the Cisco Gigabit EtherChannel or IEEE 802.3ad link aggregation protocol.
About Alacritech, Inc.
Alacritech, Inc. was founded by Larry Boucher, creator of the SCSI interface, to deliver upon his vision of eliminating the server bottleneck. Today, Alacritech is the innovator of network accelerator solutions that enable fast and efficient servers and storage systems. Alacritech's products are based on the company's patented SLIC (session-layer interface card) Technology to optimize the performance of servers, network-attached storage and iSCSI storage devices. SLIC Technology is the first fully compatible and scalable technology to offload network protocol processing, primarily TCP/IP, from software on the host system to silicon on the adapter. Based in San Jose, California, Alacritech is privately held. Alacritech is a member of the 10 Gigabit Ethernet Alliance, the iSCSI Consortium and the Storage Networking Association (SNIA) as well as a founding member of the SNIA IP Storage Forum.
