Alacritech and Macnica Announce Distribution Partnership
Leader in TCP/IP Offload and Acceleration Further Penetrates Japanese Market
San Jose, Calif., — September 9, 2002 — Alacritech®, Inc., the innovator of network accelerator solutions that enable fast and efficient servers and storage systems, and Macnica Networks Company, a division company of MACNICA, Inc., a leading Japanese IT distributor, today announced a partnership for Macnica to sell and support Alacritech's industry-first server and storage accelerators in the Japanese market. Alacritech Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet accelerators have demonstrated the industry's highest performance in network-attached storage (NAS) systems in the U.S. market. Macnica will now provide these acceleration solutions to Japan-based original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) developing blade servers, appliance servers, and iSCSI storage devices, and to enterprise end-users with network-intensive applications such as digital media production and medical imaging.
Alacritech's accelerators are based on the company's patented SLIC (session layer interface card) Technology, a data-path TCP/IP offload and acceleration architecture. SLIC Technology® enables Alacritech's 1000x1 Gigabit Ethernet Server and Storage Accelerator to be the only integrated storage network interface card (IS-NIC) capable of moving both file and block-level data; namely, it is the only card that can accelerate both IP storage (iSCSI) and standard Ethernet (TCP/IP) traffic.

Alacritech's High-Performance SLIC Technology
Alacritech developed its data-path TCP/IP offload and acceleration architecture to overcome the throughput, compatibility and scalability issues associated with full TCP offload solutions. To deliver the most efficient, high-performance server and storage traffic acceleration possible, data movement is performed by a custom designed application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) on the adapter while TCP/IP connection management and error handling are handled by host software.
