Alacritech's Gigabit Accelerator Achieves Unmatched Performance and Efficiency in Real-world Applications

Storage and Networking Demonstrations Show iSCSI Ready for Customer Deployment

Palm Desert, Calif., — April 3, 2002 — (SNW Booth #PP17) —Alacritech®, Inc., the innovator of network accelerator solutions that enable fast and efficient servers and storage systems, today announced its participation in two key storage and networking demonstrations to take place at this week's Storage Networking World (SNW) conference. Alacritech will sponsor and participate in Nishan Systems' IP Storage Road Trip Performance Showcase, a multi-vendor, end-to-end IP storage networking collaboration. In addition, Alacritech will preview Storage Computer's CyberNAS server using Alacritech's 1000x1 Single-port Server and Storage Accelerator in the company's Booth #PP17.

The IP Storage Road Trip Performance Showcase is a 16-vendor demonstration designed to show customers how real-world applications perform over various distances. The collaboration will educate attendees through a series of high-performance IP storage configurations with the vendors present to answer deployment questions related to areas of:

  • Server, storage, and storage-area network (SAN) compatibility
  • Adapter performance, efficiency and high availability
  • Using standard IP networks for high-end storage
  • Real-world applications

In this demonstration, Alacritech will provide its 1000x1 Single-port Server and Storage Accelerator, the industry's only Integrated Storage Network Interface Card (IS-NIC) to simultaneously accelerate both IP storage and standard Ethernet traffic. To show the IS-NIC's performance in iSCSI (Internet SCSI) throughput and CPU utilization, a single-port wire-speed configuration through a Nishan Systems IP Storage Switch will be demonstrated.

A second configuration will show interoperability with the Cisco SN5420 Storage Router and the IBM TotalStorage IP Storage 200i. A third configuration will feature a single Alacritech IS-NIC simultaneously accessing iSCSI block data from iSCSI targets and NAS file data from the Storage Computer CyberNAS over a single network interface. To show high availability, dual redundant IS-NICs will provide load balancing and path failover.

"Alacritech's IS-NIC running in a variety of real-world network configurations ranging from local iSCSI initiators and targets and NAS appliances, to a global network combining iSCSI and Fibre Channel end systems, proves that iSCSI is here and ready for customer deployment," said Barry Haaser, vice president of marketing, Alacritech, Inc. "We're also pleased to preview Storage Computer's CyberNAS system using our Gigabit accelerator to deliver unmatched performance and efficiency."

About Alacritech, Inc.
Alacritech, Inc. was founded by Larry Boucher, creator of the SCSI interface, to deliver upon his vision of eliminating the server bottleneck. Today, Alacritech is the innovator of network accelerator solutions that enable fast and efficient servers and storage systems. Alacritech's complete line of high-performance server and storage accelerators is based on the company's patented SLIC (session-layer interface card) Technology to optimize the performance of servers, network-attached storage and iSCSI storage devices. SLIC Technology is the first fully compatible and scalable technology to offload network protocol processing, primarily TCP/IP, from software on the host system to silicon on the adapter. Based in San Jose, California, Alacritech is privately held. Alacritech is a member of the 10 Gigabit Ethernet Alliance and the Storage Networking Association (SNIA) and a founding member of the SNIA IP Storage Forum.
