Larry Boucher, founder, president and chief executive officer of Alacritech has enjoyed a long and
distinguished career in Silicon Valley. His technical and business accomplishments include establishing
and building three successful start-up companies as well as authoring an industry-standard technical
specification. Mr. Boucher is a recognized leader in the areas of server adapter, storage, and networking
technologies.
After a successful 12-year career at IBM's Storage Division in San Jose, California, Mr. Boucher led
the engineering team that developed the SCSI interface at Shugart Associates. SCSI went on to become
the industry standard for connecting storage and other peripherals to PCs and servers. His vision of
creating an open SCSI standard led him to his initial role as a start-up entrepreneur.
In 1981, Mr. Boucher founded Adaptec, Inc., a global leader in innovative storage solutions. He took
the company public in 1986, and served as its first chief executive officer for six years. He was a
member of its Board of Directors until 2001.
Mr. Boucher founded Auspex Systems, Inc., an enterprise server manufacturer in 1987. While CEO at
Auspex, he pioneered a networked file system design that dramatically improved the performance of
Unix- and NT-based enterprise servers. This concept established the network-attached storage (NAS)
model.
In 1997, Mr. Boucher founded next-generation networking technology start-up Alacritech, Inc. to
solve the server bottleneck issue. His engineering team developed session layer interface control
(SLIC) technology, the first scalable and fully compatible technology to offload TCP/IP protocol
processing from host software to silicon. Alacritech's TCP/IP acceleration solutions can double
the throughput of servers and NAS and iSCSI storage devices, while simultaneously improving
application performance.
Mr. Boucher received his MS in electrical engineering from the University of California, Berkeley,
and his BS in business administration and his MBA from San Jose State University. He lives in
Silicon Valley with his wife of over 35 years, and has two daughters. He loves collecting and
racing sports cars, motorcycle racing, boating, water skiing, and snow skiing.
